Titanium Mail SMTP starts in Default (WordPress mail) mode. This means the plugin does not take over delivery until you choose and configure a provider. Beginners can install the plugin, look around and prepare the settings without suddenly stopping password resets, contact forms or security emails.

A safe first setup

  1. Install and activate Titanium Mail SMTP from the WordPress Plugins screen.
  2. Open Titanium Mail SMTP → Settings → Connections.
  3. Leave Mailer set to Default (WordPress mail) while you decide which provider to use.
  4. Check the From email and From name. Use an address that belongs to your website domain on a live site whenever possible.
  5. Choose an external provider only when its account, sender verification and credentials are ready.

How to connect WordPress to Postmark

Postmark is a strong choice for transactional email such as password resets, account verification, order messages and security codes. Titanium Mail SMTP connects to Postmark through its email API, so you need a verified sender or domain and a Server API Token.

Postmark setup step by step

  1. In Postmark, create or open the server that will send email for this website.
  2. Verify the From email address or, preferably, the whole sending domain.
  3. Copy the Server API Token. Do not use an account-level token.
  4. In Titanium Mail SMTP, select Postmark and enter the token, From email and From name.
  5. Leave Message stream as outbound unless you created and intentionally use another transactional stream.
  6. Save the settings, then open Tools → Test Email and send a test to an address you can check.

How to connect SendGrid, Mailgun or Brevo

SendGrid, Mailgun and Brevo all send through an email API. The exact provider dashboard looks different, but the WordPress setup is similar: verify who is allowed to send, create an API key, select the provider in Titanium and test the connection.

General API-provider setup

  1. Create an account with SendGrid, Mailgun or Brevo and complete any required account verification.
  2. Verify a sender address or sending domain in the provider dashboard.
  3. Create an API key with permission to send email.
  4. Select the matching provider in Titanium Mail SMTP and paste the API key.
  5. For Mailgun, also enter the sending domain and choose the correct US or EU region.
  6. Save the settings, then send a real Test Email through the configured connection.

How to connect Amazon SES without getting lost in AWS settings

Amazon SES is inexpensive and reliable, but it has more setup steps than most providers. The most important details are the AWS region, verified identities, sandbox status and credentials that are allowed to send through SES.

Amazon SES setup step by step

  1. Open Amazon SES in the AWS region you want to use for this website.
  2. Verify the sending domain or From email in that same region.
  3. Check whether the SES account is still in sandbox. Sandbox accounts can normally send only to verified recipients.
  4. Create an IAM access key with the minimum permissions needed to send through SES.
  5. In Titanium, select Amazon SES and enter the access key, secret key and matching region.
  6. Add a session token only when you are intentionally using temporary AWS credentials.
  7. Save the connection and send a test email.

How to use hosting or mailbox SMTP credentials

Other SMTP works with many hosting mailboxes and transactional SMTP services. You need the server hostname, port, encryption type and, in most cases, a username and password. These values must come from the email provider, not from WordPress.

SMTP setup step by step

  1. Ask your host or email provider for the SMTP hostname, port and encryption type.
  2. In Titanium, select Other SMTP and enter the host and port.
  3. Choose TLS, SSL or None exactly as documented by the provider.
  4. Keep Authentication enabled when the provider requires a username and password.
  5. Enter the SMTP username, which is often the full mailbox email address, and the SMTP password.
  6. Save the connection, then send a real Test Email through it.

How to test email delivery and understand the result

Titanium uses a real test email instead of a separate credential-only connection check. This tests the actual WordPress sending path, provider authentication and message delivery request together. Free can send the test through either the Primary Connection or its one Additional Connection.

A useful testing order

  1. Open Titanium Mail SMTP → Tools → Test Email.
  2. Select the Primary Connection or Additional Connection you want to test.
  3. Enter a recipient address you can check and press Send Test Email once. The button becomes inactive and shows a spinner while WordPress is working.
  4. Read the complete result shown by Titanium. Missing credentials, authentication errors and provider responses are reported by the real send attempt.
  5. Check the inbox, spam folder and the provider activity log.
  6. On Local, check Mailpit or MailHog because local email is often captured instead of sent to the internet.

How to receive an alert when WordPress email fails

A website can appear normal while password resets, order emails or form notifications are failing in the background. Titanium can send a simple failure alert when WordPress reports that an email could not be sent.

Enable failure alerts

  1. Open Titanium Mail SMTP → Settings → Alerts.
  2. Enable the email failure alert option.
  3. Enter an address that is actively monitored by the site owner or administrator.
  4. Save the settings.
  5. Run a normal test email to confirm the main connection works before depending on alerts.
  6. When an alert arrives, use its error information to check the provider account, credentials and sending domain.

Titanium Mail SMTP can import the supported primary connection from WP Mail SMTP. The migration is designed to help new users switch without manually copying every From setting, API key or SMTP field. It does not delete the original WP Mail SMTP data.

A safer migration process

  1. Create a normal site backup before changing email plugins on a live website.
  2. Leave the current WP Mail SMTP settings in place while installing Titanium Mail SMTP.

  4. Check that the correct provider, From details and saved credential status were imported.
  5. Open Tools and send a real test email through Titanium.
  6. Only after a successful test should you deactivate the old SMTP plugin to avoid two mail plugins controlling the same email.
